98 Nicomekl Statement on COVID-19 and Camp No Name

April 9, 2020

To the membership of 98 Nicomekl Scout Group:

The 98 Nicomekl events committee has reached the difficult decision to cancel Camp No Name for 2020. We have been watching and listening to the federal and provincial health officials’ recommendations and orders regarding social and physical distancing, gathering sizes, and travel restrictions. We feel it is not possible for us to maintain compliance with these aspects at the Ruckell Point Scout Camp facility.

We know this announcement will come with much disappointment. We are all disappointed too, but we know the health and safety of our Scouting and Guiding family is paramount.

We look forward to the return of Camp No Name in 2021.

May 15 - 18, 2019

Registration information will be posted soon.

Camp No Name will return to Ruckell Point Scout Camp on Shuswap Lake in May 2020.

Held at Ruckell Point Scout Camp, located at the western midpoint of Shuswap Lake, Camp No Name is open to all registered Nicomekl Area Venturers, Rovers, & 4th Year Scouts, and all registered Fraser Skies Area Rangers and Link. Want more information? Check out this document.

Registration information will be available soon.

In 2020, Camp No Name will be held on the May Long Weekend, May 15-18, 2020. Camp gates open no earlier than 2 pm on Friday, May 15, and close by 10 am on Monday, May 18.

The 2020 registration fee is $50 per person, including leaders. Registration includes food for the weekend, camp fees and activities, and a crest for each person attending.
You have two options to pay for this event: online at the time of registration, or payment can be brought with you/your group to camp. Upon check-in, you will be required to hand in payment. Cheques should be made out to Scouts Canada - 98 Nicomekl. Cash is also fine.

There are cabins available and ample tenting space can be found throughout the camp. Cabins will be designated as male or female and by appropriate age groups. The cabin bunks do not have mats- bring your own. The tenting area is in the tree-covered area by the parking lot.

PLEASE NOTE: 4th Year Scouts will be required to tent in the tenting area near their Leader(s). No cabin space will be available for Scout-aged youth. Scout Leaders: please ensure you bring adequate tents for your 4th Year Scouts.

Groups are asked to bring the following:
     - 1 Gallon of drinking water per person attending (ex. 5 attendees = 5 gallons of water)
     - An armful of firewood. Over the past several years dry and burnable wood has become scarce
     - Two rolls of toilet paper
     - Sharing snacks
     - Canoes and/or kayaks and appropriate safety gear
     - Sports balls and/or equipment

As in years past, there are no scheduled activities other than the formal dinner. You are encouraged to wear something formal (or your uniform) at the formal dinner.
Scout Leaders: The camp organizing committee requests that you plan suitable program activities for your 4th Year Scouts for Saturday daytime. (Example: hiking one of the trails around the property/lakeshore.)
